Breakthrough Twin Cities is a six-year, tuition-free academic enrichment and college preparatory program that helps students prepare for college success.

Summer academics, year-round support, and college counseling for Twin Cities students at no cost to your family.

Is this program for me?

You're eligible if you're a current 6th grader and at least one of these describes you:

  • First in your family to attend college

  • Race under-represented in college

  • Live in a single-parent home

  • Eligible for free or reduced lunch

  • Speak a language other than English at home

What will I actually do at Breakthrough?

Learn

Math, science, literature, writing, and other academic subjects.

Connect

Build relationships with students and Teaching Fellows.

Explore

Electives, projects, field trips, and new experiences.

Prepare

Build skills and confidence for high school and college.

What the six years look like?

The Commitment

Breakthrough is tuition-free. Students and families "pay" with hard work over six years.

Students commit to

  • Attend summer + school-year programming

  • Work toward a B- or better in core classes

  • Stay in touch with your advisor

  • Join one activity outside Breakthrough

Families commit to

  • Support the six-year commitment

  • Get your student to program dates

  • Attend a few family events each year

  • Stay in contact with Breakthrough staff
