Rachel Banen is a passionate advocate for student and teacher-led solutions to closing the opportunity gap and promoting diversity in education. After graduating from Macalester College in 2016, she worked as a Teaching Fellow at the Saint Paul Central site, where she was inspired by Breakthrough’s innovative strategies to close the opportunity gap. Looking for a platform to sharpen her teaching skills, while pursuing her interest in diversity and equity in education, Rachel taught English in Spain for two years. Upon returning to the Twin Cities in 2018, Rachel worked as a school year coach and volunteer for Breakthrough. She recently joined Breakthrough as an educator-facing Program Manager and is thrilled to continue learning how to empower Teaching Fellows to equip students to reach their goals.
